Designed by Vann Molyvann, the original Pasteur Institute was constructed in 1965-67 as a medical research facility. Some older Cambodians also remember it as the Pasteur Veterinary Hospital. The original plot of land included a separate administrative building, which was destroyed. What remains is the former laboratory, which also had apartments for staff at the Institute. In 1995, the institute moved to Monivong boulevard in Phnom Penh.
