Sept 19 : Scientific Seminar “Transcriptomic profiling of P.vivax sporozoites using sc-RNAseq”

Title: “Transcriptomic profiling of P.vivax sporozoites using sc-RNAseq”

Speaker: Anthony RUBERTO, Post-doctoral research, Malaria: Parasites and Hosts Unit, Institut Pasteur Paris

Plasmodium vivax is a key obstacle to malaria elimination, largely attributed to the species ability to form resilient dormant forms—‘hypnozoites’—in the host liver that escape drug treatment and cause relapsing infections. The decision to form hypnozoites is made early in the liver infection and we hypothesize that the developmental fate may already be set in sporozoites prior to invasion. To test this hypothesis, we aim to profile the transcriptome of P.vivax sporozoites using novel droplet-based single-cell isolation techniques and sequence individual sporozoites to decipher whether heterogenous populations exist.
