PUBLIC HEALTH CARE

-  Anonymous and free HIV testing center
-  Rabies vaccination center
-  International vaccination center
-  Biomedical tests laboratory
-  Laboratory of histopathology
-  National Reference Centers for the biological diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, for the biological diagnosis of SARS, for the biological diagnosis of rabies
-  Food and water analysis microbiology laboratory
-  Part in the national programs of fight against sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS, against tuberculosis, measles, dengue and arboviral diseases, and malaria. Participation in the monitoring of emergence of resistance to antimalarial drugs and antimicrobial (antibiotics and antiretroviral) drugs.

RESEARCH AND TRAINING

  • Research areas :

    -  HIV/AIDS infection : Several projects are founded by the French Agency for AIDS Research (ANRS) : Identification of natural protection factors against HIV-1 in at risk but non infected patients ; study of the genetic foctors of resistance and susceptibility ot HIV infection in Cambodia ; prevention of mother to child transmission : characterization of germs responsible for infectious pneumopathies in immunodepressed/AIDS to optimize the follow-up of treatment ; study of HIV polymorphism and resistance to antiretroviral drugs in Cambodia.
    -  Arboviral diseases, hemorrhagic dengue, Japanese encephalitis.
    -  Molecular epidemiology of the measles virus in South East Asia.
    -  Viral hepatitis, in particular the study of the genetic diversity of hepatitis B, C and E viruses in Sout East Asia ; detection of hepatitis C and transfusion safety (in collaboration with the National blood Transfusion Center)
    -  Rabie and intra-vitam diagnosis in humain ; lyssaviruses in Chiroptera.
    -  Study of emerging pathogenic agents : hantaviruses (hemorrhagic syndrome), Nipah virus (encephalitis), SARS associated coronavirus (respiratory syndrome).
    -  Malaria : molecular epidemiology, prevalence and characterizaton of infections by Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax P.malarie and P. ovale in Cambodia ; biodiversity of P. falciparum ; resistance of P. falciparum to antimalarial drugs and characterization of P. falciparum genes associated to this resistance (in coll. with the National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control).

  • Training :

    -  Upgrading training for local scientists
    -  Training for Cambodian and foreign students (technician and higher technician level, engineers, Ph.D.)
    -  Part of the graduation and post-graduation University cycle (CES of clinical biology for the University of Health Sciences, Phnom Penh).
