    JOB OFFER FOR A SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH ASSISTANT FOR THE EPIDEMIOLOGY AND PUBLIC HEALTH UNIT

    Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) will recruit one full time Social Science Research Assistant (SSRA) to work on clinical research studies at the Clinical Research Group of the Epidemiology and Public Health Unit with 1 year contract.

    RECRUITMENT CONDITIONS:

    • Language required : Khmer mandatory + English or French
    • Knowledge and experience on qualitative research (preferably but not mandatory: Masters in Social Sciences and/or Public Health)
    • At least 3 month’s experience:
      • in coordinating/implementing a facility-based/community-based survey
      • in qualitative data collection using various methods such as in-depth interviews, groups discussions, observations;
      • in transcribing and translation of qualitative data 
      • in a community-based or clinic-based study
    • Strong data entry skills using computer software packages
    • Understanding of the regulatory context, good clinical practices and standard operating procedures
    • Communication skills and a good interpersonal relationship
    • Ability to work independently, coupled with management and organizational skills.
    • Availability to travel frequently to study sites

    ABILITIES DESIRE:

    • Knowledge on Tuberculosis and childhood Tuberculosis
    • Knowledge of district health systems
    • Working experience in conducting surveys /interviews is added advantage

    JOB PURPOSE:

    The Social Science Research Assistant (SSRA) will be involved in the implementation of the acceptability, feasibility and fidelity assessments of a project study, under the direct supervision of the Social Sciences Coordinator (SSC) and of the country Project Manager (PM).

    In this context, the SSRA will collect and manage qualitative data based on individual interviews (with Health Care Workers and with parents/guardians of the children enrolled), and possibly key informants’ interviews. The SSRA will also participate in coding and preliminary data analysis. The SSRA will collect and compile monthly information contributing to the fidelity and context analysis.

    Finally, the SSRA will contribute to health economics data collection for a Cost-Effectiveness study, under the supervision of the PM.

    DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS:

    Individual interviews:

    • Attend training sessions
    • Contribute to interview guide conception
    • Recruit study participants for the individual interviews
    • Conduct the information and informed consent process with participants
    • Schedule, prepare and conduct the interviews
    • Compile field notes and case summaries
    • Attend debriefing sessions with the SSC
    • Maintain accurate data collection records
    • Transcribe audio recordings and translate scripts from Khmer into English language when   needed.
    • Participate in development of coding framework, in thematic coding of data and in preparation of thematic summaries.
    • Participate in regular meetings with the country and output PMs and Social Sciences Coordinator and Implementation Research Investigator.

    Context and fidelity assessment:

    • Attend training sessions
    • Collect, compile and manage the quantitative and qualitative data required for the fidelity/context analysis
    • Collection community observation data
    • Attend debriefing sessions with the SSC
    • Participate in regular meetings with the country and output PMs and Social Sciences Coordinator and Implementation Research Investigator.

    Health economics:

    • Attend training sessions
    • Collect costs of resources associated with intervention delivery available at a national level
    • Visit study sites and laboratories, record resources used for intervention delivery and collect local costs of resources used.
    • Recruit Health Care Workers for time and motion study, distribute and collect timesheets
    • Participate in regular meetings with the PMs and Economic Coordinator and Implementation Research Investigator.
