The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is a Cambodian non-for-profit research institution established in 1953, IPC is today a scientific research establishment declared of public utility placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and under the responsibility of the Institute Pasteur on the scientific and technical levels. The IPC is a member of the Pasteur Network, which brings together over 30 institutes present on five continents. It shares the Pasteurian values and the ethical charter to which the Pasteur Institutes are bound. The IPC has around 300 employees, including about 30 expatriates of 22 nationalities and includes 5 research units. It carries out research activities in health biology, public health and service activities (Medical Biology Laboratory, vaccinations and water and food analyses) and training.
The Epidemiology and Public Health Unit of the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) conducts operational epidemiological research on major public health challenges in Cambodia. Its work focuses on improving the understanding of transmission dynamics of infectious and emerging diseases, and on strengthening prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies for priority diseases in vulnerable populations. The Unit currently comprises around fifty staff members organized into three research groups: the Community Epidemiology Group, the Methodology and Data Analysis Group, and the Clinical Research Group. It leads and contributes to multi-partner international research initiatives funded by major global actors such as the Welcome Trust, NIH, French and international development agencies, the Pasteur Network ANRS-MIE Agency and other key donors.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biostatistician to lead and support the statistical components of large-scale epidemiological research projects, including observational and interventional studies conducted by the Epidemiology and Public Health Unit. The Senior Biostatistician will be part of the Methodology and Data Analysis Group, which plays a central role in study design, statistical analysis, and ensuring methodological quality across IPC’s collaborative research portfolio.

Position Overview:
The Senior Biostatistician will work under the supervision of the Head of the Epidemiology and Public Health Unit and in close collaboration with project investigators, research scientists, PhD Students and data managers. In addition to contributing to study design, statistical analysis plans, and analytical outputs, the Senior Biostatistician will be responsible for supervising junior data analysts, PhD students within the Methodology and Data Analysis Group.

Main responsibilities:
- Statistical Analysis and Methodological Support
- Develop statistical analysis plans and perform data analysis using R, Stata, or other relevant software.
- Apply a wide range of statistical techniques including regression, survival analysis, mixed models, geospatial analysis and Bayesian approaches.
- Analyze data from a wide range of study designs including population-based surveys, observational studies, longitudinal cohorts, case-control studies, clinical trials and routine surveillance systems.
- Contribute to protocol development, sample size calculation, and study design refinement.
- Ensure methodological rigor and validity of findings throughout the research process.
- Team Supervision and Capacity Building
- Supervise and mentor Cambodian and international junior biostatisticians and data analysts within the Epidemiology and Public Health Unit.
- Coordinate and strengthen the skills of the data analysis team, fostering autonomy and high-quality outputs.
- Deliver theoretical and hands-on training sessions in biostatistics and epidemiological methods for staff from other IPC units and contribute actively to teaching activities in national and international courses, including at the University of Health Sciences of Cambodia.
- Support long-term capacity building through mentorship, supervision of junior staff, and promotion of good statistical practices.
- Review and validate statistical analyses performed by team members and collaborators, ensuring high-quality standards across all projects.
- Scientific Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate advanced statistical concepts and results clearly to multidisciplinary audiences, including scientists, clinicians, public health officials, and policy stakeholders.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, technical reports, grant proposals, and oral presentations at national and international conferences.
- Work in close collaboration with Principal Investigators, data managers, and project teams to support analytical needs across IPC’s research portfolio.
- Contribute to regular strategic and technical exchanges with key national and international partners including institutes within the Pasteur Network and the Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases Unit at Institut Pasteur in Paris.
Candidate Profile:
- Qualifications:
- PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology, Data Science or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in applied biostatistics in research in epidemiology, public health or clinical settings.
- Strong expertise in statistical software and programming languafes (e.g. R, Stata, Python).
- Experience with diverse epidemiological study designs and analytical frameworks.
- Experience collaborating with international, multidisciplinary research teams.
- Skills:
- Fluency in English language required. Khmer or French language skills is an asset.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to mentor, train, and coordinate junior analysts and contribute to long-term capacity building efforts.
- Written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain statistical concepts to non-experts.
- Experience with spatial analysis or Geographic Information Systems is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
- Interest in intercultural environments
