Institut Pasteur du Cambodge Hosts Regional Course on Environmental Surveillance of Pathogens at High-Risk Interfaces
From June 2–6, 2025, the Virology Unit at Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) hosted a dynamic regional training course, “Environmental Surveillance and Monitoring of Pathogens at High-Risk Interfaces.”
Organized with support from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under its ZODIAC initiative and in collaboration with Duke-NUS Medical School and the Asia Pathogen Genomics Initiative (Asia-PGI), the course brought together 13 professionals from nine countries—Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
Throughout the week, participants explored critical topics in environmental surveillance, including innovative sampling strategies, field-forward diagnostics, and integrated early warning systems for zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases.
This training, which is fully in line with the One-Health approach to avian flu prevention and control, is not only strengthened technical capacity across the region but also deepened collaboration and coordination, laying the foundation for more rapid, cohesive, and effective responses to infectious disease threats at the human-animal-environment interface.
