The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is a Cambodian non-for-profit research institution established in 1953, IPC is today a scientific research establishment declared of public utility placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and under the responsibility of the Institute Pasteur on the scientific and technical levels. The IPC is a member of the Pasteur Network, which brings together over 30 institutes present on five continents. It shares the Pasteurian values and the ethical charter to which the Pasteur Institutes are bound. The IPC has around 300 employees, including about 30 expatriates of 22 nationalities and includes 5 research units. It carries out research activities in health biology, public health and service activities (Medical Biology Laboratory, vaccinations and water and food analyses) and training.

 

The Epidemiology and Public Health Unit of the IPC conducts operational epidemiological research studies on major public health challenges in Cambodia. Specifically, the work carried out aims to improve the understanding of the transmission of infectious and emerging diseases and to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority pathologies in the most vulnerable populations. The Unit leads and contributes to multi-partner international research initiatives supported by major global funders such as the Wellcome Trust, the Pasteur Network, French and international development cooperation funds, as well as other key international donors.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated Medical Research Assistant to support the management of various aspects of research projects. The Medical Research Assistant will assist project principal investigators in designing research methodologies, collecting and analyzing data, conducting literature reviews, writing proposals, maintaining research databases and valorizing collected data.

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will contribute to all stages of research, from study design and field implementation to data analysis and dissemination of findings. The position requires active participation in both qualitative and quantitative components of community-based, operational, and epidemiological research projects.

 

Recruitment conditions:

  • Position: Full-time.
  • Contract: The initial contract is offered for 1 year (renewable).

Main responsibilities:

  • Research implementation:
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of multidisciplinary research projects combining epidemiology and social sciences, with a focus on infectious diseases.
    • Support the development and application of scientific protocols, ensuring adherence to ethical standards and research integrity.
    • Assist in developing new research protocols and collaborative funding proposals.
  • Field coordination and supervision
    • Participate in the supervision and coordination of field activities, including the training and quality control of data collection teams.
    • Oversee the implementation of both quantitative and qualitative data collection in alignment with study protocols.
  • Data Analysis and Scientific Output
    • Contribute to the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data using appropriate analytical software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti, Stata/R).
    • Interpret research findings and contribute to drafting progress reports, technical documentation, abstracts, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Communication and Dissemination:
    • Maintain communication with local health authorities, institutional partners, and both national and international stakeholders.
    • Support the dissemination of study results and promote the visibility of project outcomes through collaborative outreach efforts.

Candidate Profile:

  • Qualifications:
    • Medical Doctor (MD) and/or Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Sciences applied to health or equivalent.
    • Previous experience in implementing public health, community-based, or clinical research projects.
    • Experience with multidisciplinary teams and projects involving multiple institutional stakeholders.
    • Practical experience in operational research, field supervision, and monitoring of data quality.
  • Skills:
    • Familiarity with digital data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK).
    • Strong understanding of research ethics and good clinical practices.
    • Proficiency in statistical (Stata, R) and/or qualitative (NVivo, Atlas.ti) analysis software.
    • Excellent writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
