In December, Institut Pasteur du Cambodge’s CoLab team brought a simple but powerful idea to the BioPrevail Design Challenge Showcase Event in Geneva: laboratory waste can be transformed into a sustainable solution.

Over three months, the team piloted a waste-to-resource system that turns plastic lab waste into new laboratory consumables. This work reflects a One Health mindset, recognizing that strengthening biosecurity and biosafety also goes hand in hand with caring for the environment and the systems that support global health.

Represented by Ms. Sofia Perez and Mr. Hokkean Lim, the CoLab team shared with scientists, global health partners, funders, and collaborators how local resources, technical expertise, and creativity can lead to practical solutions for greener laboratories with lasting impact.
