Three International Scholarships and Fellowships for the BAIA Unit

The Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence and Analytics (BAIA) Unit at Institut Pasteur du Cambodge recently celebrated three notable achievements that reflect its growing international recognition.

Tom Perrin, a Master’s student from Mines Paris – PSL, was awarded a Pierre Ledoux Scholarship and joined BAIA for six months to conduct his thesis on AI methods for single-cell RNA sequencing analysis.

James Barta, a medical student from Yale University, received a Wilbur Downs Fellowship to conduct a pilot study exploring the use of AI to assist in the diagnosis of dermatological infectious diseases in Cambodian skin types.

In addition, Sivyi Chhay, Research Engineer at BAIA, was awarded a scholarship from the University of Hong Kong to attend the Croucher Summer Course 2026 on Virus Evolution and Epidemiology.

These achievements highlight BAIA’s growing role in advancing artificial intelligence and data science for public health research while strengthening international collaborations and scientific training opportunities.
