Strengthening Regional Capacity in Multiplex Serology within the ECOMORE Network
From 1–5 June 2026, the Virology Unit of Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) hosted a one-week Serological Multiplex Immunoassay (MIA) Training Program in Phnom Penh under the framework of the ECOMORE network, with the support of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Institut Pasteur. The training brought together 14 participants from partner institutions across Southeast Asia and the Pacific, namely the Institut Pasteur du Laos, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, the Institut Pasteur de Nouvelle Calédonie, and the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network, reflecting the regional and collaborative spirit at the heart of the ECOMORE initiative.
Designed to strengthen laboratory capacities for the surveillance of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, the training focused on Multiplex Microsphere-based Assays (MIA) using Luminex technology. This innovative approach enables the simultaneous detection of antibodies against multiple pathogens from a single sample, making it a powerful and cost-effective tool for large-scale serological surveillance. Throughout the week, participants received hands-on training from IPC’s Virology Unit, covering key steps of the MIA workflow and providing a comprehensive overview of the analytical pipeline required for high-quality serological studies.
ECOMORE is not only about implementing innovative technologies but also about fostering sustainable scientific partnerships across countries and disciplines. This training represents a concrete example of that vision in action, bringing together laboratory professionals from across the region to learn, collaborate, and collectively strengthen health security in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
