The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is a Cambodian non-for-profit research institution established in 1953, IPC is today a scientific research establishment declared of public utility placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and under the responsibility of the Institute Pasteur on the scientific and technical levels. The IPC is a member of the Pasteur Network, which brings together over 30 institutes present on five continents. It shares the Pasteurian values and the ethical charter to which the Pasteur Institutes are bound. The IPC has around 300 employees, including about 30 expatriates of 22 nationalities and includes 6 research units. It carries out research activities in health biology, public health and service activities (Medical Biology Laboratory, vaccinations and water and food analyses) and training.
The Epidemiology and Public Health Unit of the IPC conducts operational epidemiological research studies on major public health challenges in Cambodia. Specifically, the work carried out aims to improve the understanding of the transmission of infectious and emerging diseases and to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of priority pathologies in the most vulnerable populations. The Unit leads and contributes to multi-partner international research initiatives supported by major global funders such as the Global Funds, the Wellcome Trust, the Pasteur Network, French and international development cooperation funds, as well as other key international donors.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Verification Intern (AI and facial recognition) to assist with participant verification and data integrity assurance within the RAI2 project at the Epidemiology and Public Health Unit of the IPC.

Internship Overview:
This internship offers an exciting opportunity to support the RAI2 Project through innovative approaches using AI and facial recognition tools. Under the supervision of the Epidemiologist of the unit, the intern will implement advanced software tools to verify participant identities through facial recognition analysis of video and photographic data collected in the field, complemented by matching participant names and parental information. This position is ideal for candidates interested in AI applications, data verification, quality assurance, and public health research within an international research environment.

- Position: Full-time.
- Contract: Internship for 3 to 4 months.

Main responsibilities:
- Applied AI for Facial Recognition and Data Verification:
- Utilize facial recognition and AI-driven tools to detect duplicate participant entries through the analysis of video and photo data.
- Cross-reference facial recognition results with participant names and parental details to enhance data accuracy.
- Ensure adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards during participant data handling.
- Data Management Support:
- Maintain accurate databases and support data cleaning and preprocessing tasks.
- Assist with comprehensive data quality checks.
- Collaboration & Reporting:
- Actively participate in project meetings and clearly communicate findings with the team.
- Prepare regular reports summarizing verification processes and data quality.
Candidate Profile:
- Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Public Health, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong interest in AI, facial recognition technology, data analysis, and public health applications.
- Prior experience or coursework involving facial recognition software, image/video analysis tools, or data verification methodologies is strongly preferred.
- Skills:
- Familiarity with facial recognition technologies and AI tools.
- Proficient in Khmer language to accurately verify participant names and parental details; good command of English (knowledge of French is beneficial).
- Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented, and proficient problem-solving abilities.
- Proactive mindset, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
- Comfortable using common digital tools (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
