Appointment of Dr. Jean Popovici, head of the Malaria unit at Institut Pasteur du Cambodge, as Directeur de Recherche at Institut Pasteur de Paris
We are proud to celebrate the appointment of Dr. Jean Popovici as Directeur de Recherche at Institut Pasteur de Paris. His work is at the forefront of malaria elimination strategies with a special focus on the challenging P. vivax. Over the years, his team has successfully developed short-term in vitro cultures of both blood and liver stages of Plasmodium vivax, a unique expertise mastered by only a few groups worldwide. These cultures, performed on hundreds of clinical isolates, combined with clinical studies, as well as advanced genomic and immunological approaches conducted by long-standing local and international collaborators, enable research on host-parasite interactions, epidemiology, vaccine development, and drug efficacy.
At IPC, Jean is the fourth Directeur de Recherche (three IPP’s DRs at IPP, Dr. Jean Popovici, Dr. Tineke Cantaert, Dr. Sebastien Boyer and one DR as Scientific Director of the Pasteur Network, Dr. Ly Sowath), a testament to the Institute’s strong scientific trajectory.
Congratulations to our colleague, Dr. Jean Popovici on this remarkable milestone that reinforces the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge’s commitment to advancing science and public health.
