The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is a Cambodian non-for-profit research institution established in 1953, IPC is today a scientific research establishment declared of public utility placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and under the responsibility of the Institute Pasteur on the scientific and technical levels. The IPC is a member of the Pasteur Network, which brings together more than 30 institutes present on five continents. It shares the Pasteurian values and the ethical charter to which the Pasteur Institutes are bound. The IPC has more than 300 employees, including about 30 expatriates of 10 nationalities and includes 6 research units. It carries out research activities in biomedical research, public health and service activities (Medical Biology Laboratory, Vaccination Service including Rabies Preventive Center and water and food analyses) and training. 

 

The Medical Biology Laboratory (MBL) provides a comprehensive platform for biological analysis, offering more than 170 different tests to public and private hospitals, clinics, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and individual walk-in patients. The laboratory comprises 47 staff members working across seven sectors: Reception, Sampling, Microbiology, Mycobacteriology, Blood biology, Molecular Biology Platform, and the Bacteriology Research Laboratory. Since 2018, the MBL has been accredited to ISO 15189 standards by the French Accreditation Committee (COFRAC).

 

The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC) is seeking a full-time Medical Doctor for the Medical Biology Laboratory. The initial contract is offered for one year (renewable).

Position Overview:

The Medical Doctor in the Medical Biology Laboratory plays a key role in providing medical consultation to patients, supporting appropriate test selection, and ensuring the accurate interpretation of laboratory results. The physician provides clinical advice based on laboratory findings but does not provide medical treatment.

Working closely with laboratory professionals, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered laboratory services while ensuring compliance with professional ethics, confidentiality requirements, and quality standards. The position also involves active participation in continuous quality improvement activities, laboratory accreditation processes, and the development and implementation of new diagnostic services.

 

Recruitment conditions:

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical consultation to patients regarding laboratory investigations, including guidance on appropriate test selection and preparation.
  • Review and interpret laboratory test results and provide clinical advice to patients and healthcare professionals when required.
  • Provide professional support for the appropriate utilization of laboratory services and diagnostic testing.
  • Provide voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) services, including pre- and post-test HIV counseling and reporting.
  • Ensure strict respect for patient privacy, confidentiality, and secure management of medical information.
  • Maintain impartiality and professional independence in all laboratory-related activities.
  • Maintain and update professional knowledge through continuing medical education and professional development.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and support laboratory accreditation processes (e.g., quality management system implementation for advisory service and improvement actions).
  • Contribute to the development, and implementation of new diagnostic services in collaboration with laboratory teams.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary collaboration to improve laboratory service quality and patient care.

Candidate Profile:

  • Cambodian nationality
  • Medical Doctor degree
  • Registered with the Medical Council of Cambodia (MCC)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience, preferably including outpatient consultation and/or medical laboratory activities.
  • Strong sense of medical ethics, responsibility, professionalism, and commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.

  • Good availability to support laboratory activities and service requirements.
  • Good computer literacy: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
